Each country has distinctive, exhilarating adventures you MUST try. If you’re traveling to a new country, you should definitely do some research on unique experiences you can be a part of.
Having said that, maybe you’ll find inspiration in this list of 14 things that should be on your travel bucket list:
1. Visit the Amazon jungle in Brazil
At the Amazon jungle you can witness nature in all its glory. Explore different kinds of life, climb trees, fish for sport and do all kinds of outdoor activities. You may see some animals including monkeys, but don’t expect to be thrown in the jungle book. You can explore the jungle with a tour and stay at a lodge or you can travel on a river boat. For planning help, check out Lonely planet.
2. Hang glide in Rio
Fly free in the skies like a bird, while surrounded with magnificent Rio views. This adrenaline-pumping adventure is a bucket list must. I mean, who doesn’t want to fly? Watch this video to get your inspiration going. (PS flying without an instructor may require training.)
3. Stay at the ice hotel in Sweden
Imagine this; a hotel made entirely of ice, all handcrafted by artists. Shut up and take my money! This hotel experience is complete with an ice bar and daily excursions. You will be given expedition-style sleeping bags to keep you warm at night. Temperatures range from -5 to -7 C, so be sure to pack thermal underwear! The hotel suggests switching from cold to warm rooms during your stay, for a better experience.
4. Snorkel with whale sharks in Australia
Face your fears by swimming with them. Well, not really, since whale sharks do not eat meat. If you’re more of an adrenaline junky, you can try diving with the great white ones (you’ll be surrounded by a cage for your protection, of course). Check out the top 5 diving experiences in Australia.
5. Stay in a tree house in the US
This gorgeous tree house listed on Airbnb (one of many btw!), is the perfect country side getaway. Not only will you experience a little bit of wilderness, but you also get to live out your childhood fantasies.
6. Have breakfast with a giraffe in Nairobi
You can do that?!! Sure you can. Get woken up by these beautiful creatures when you stay in the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi. They also munch on your breakfast by peeking their head through the window. An experience not to skip!
7. Swim in the black sea in Crimea
Fun Fact: the black sea is not really black, it is actually quite blue. It is believed sailors gave it that name due to how it looks when there’s a storm. This legendary sea is less salty than an ocean therefore it is harder to swim in. It also contains the oldest living life form, many species of deep-sea corals. These corals also help against global warming. How could you not want to visit this history-rich sea?
8. See the Northern Lights in Iceland
These light are also known as aurora. They are a spectacular night view, seen only in a few countries. There is nothing quite like it, hence it deserves a bucket list spot. Unfortunately, it is not possible to accurately predict when these beautiful lights will appear, so your trip should also include other awesome things to do in Iceland, including the blue lagoon spa.
9. Meditate under a waterfall in Japan
If you’ve ever watched a martial arts movie or anime, you might have seen scenes like this before. Ever since I was young, I have wanted to experience this. It is said that you are able to concentrate immensely under the water pressure, and that you feel like you’re in your own world. Luckily, Japan is full of waterfalls, over a hundred to be exact. Meditating under one of them is not uncommon, you can even find tours dedicated to this.
10. Ride a camel in Egypt
Experiencing the desert and riding an exotic animal, how could I not include this? Cross the desert with a tour and visit the last one of the old 7 wonders of the world, the Giza pyramids. Just don’t get lost in the desert!
11. Zipline in New Zealand
New Zealand is THE destination for adventure travelling. Ziplining is just one of those adventures. And when I say ziplining, I mean hard-core ziplinging, through tree tops or down a hill. Find out more types of ziplining adventures here.
12. Take a ski trip in Austria
Ski on white, beautiful mountains you can find in Austria. Other places you can get a wonderful skiing experience in, are France and Switzerland. Stay at a nice, warm resort to complete your experience.
13. Go on a safari in Africa
This is a staple in travel bucket lists. Get a small taste of what it’s like to live in the wilderness, watch animals in their natural habitat and their interactions. How can you leave this out? Make sure you find a good tour so that you can have an awesome, safe time. And be sure to pack a camera, you’ll want to remember this!
14. Do the highest bungee jump in China
Bungee jumping is another staple in travel bucket lists for thrill seekers. Experience the highest jump (233m) when jumping from the Macau tower in China. This adventure is organised by the man who started commercial bungee jumping himself, AJHackett. You can also climb the tower if you’d like.
