Find ways how you can monetize your blog from the very start.
As soon as you start your blog, you will probably start looking for ways to make an income from it. You probably did this even before starting your blog, right?
Looking for ways to earn some money from your blog is absolutely normal. I mean, you put in a heck ton of hours at first, so why shouldn’t you gain something from it?
You can use different ways to monetize your blog. And the more your blog grows, the more monetizing options you have.
Ways To Monetize Your Blog When You’re Just Starting Out
Ads are by far the easiest way to monetize your blog. You just have to set them up once, and you’re good to go.
Of course, when you have a very little following, (like when starting out) you will not make much of a living from this.
But it is still the first step in monetizing and having ads in your blog doesn’t hurt (if you do it elegantly).
Once you gain more traffic, more money will flow in, and you’ll be glad you have set up those ads.
Also, having ads from the start is much better than adding them when you’ve established yourself. If you add them later on, you might get complaints and/or lose some following.
So, it’s better to have them now.
For an ad provider service, I recommend AdSense. It is by far the most reliable company out there (well, it’s Google after all!).
Adsense’s algorithm makes sure that the highest paying ads for your blog, are displayed. You can get paid by clicks and by views.

For those of you who don’t know, affiliate marketing is when you place a link/banner to a product/service, and when people purchase something through your link, you will receive a commission.
It is basically a commission-based sales strategy. The more you sell, the more money you earn.
Affiliate marketing is the definition of earning while you sleep. The links are there, ready for the world to see, even while you’re sleeping.
So this makes it a pretty awesome way to monetize your blog. And the beauty of it is that you can start doing it from day 1.
So from where do I get these links?
There are 2 ways to do this;
1. You can either join affiliate programs for each company directly with them (if they have it).
2. Or you can join affiliate marketing networks. This is basically a company which creates a bridge between the people who pay and the people who want to get paid.
How to know if a company has a direct affiliate marketing?
Easy … Just go to Google and type in: company name + affiliate program. And see what pops up.
PROTIP: The best way to start with affiliate marketing is by joining the Amazon affiliate program. It is easy to get into and you can sell practically anything!
Which are the best affiliate networks to join?
PROTIP: If a company has both a direct affiliate program and a program with a network, always choose the direct one! The direct program usually has higher commission rates and you’re dealing with the company directly.
Ways To Monetize Your Blog When You Gain More Traffic
There are several different ways how you can monetize a blog at this point. But remember that each niche is different.
For example; an e-course might do extremely well in the blogging-related niche, but chances are that e-courses are an absolute bust in the gardening niche.
PROTIP: Look for established blogs in your niche and see how they earn money from their blogs. Do they use ads? Do they offer e-books or courses? Affiliate marketing?
Creating your own unique product and selling it to your loyal audience, is the highest earning method in blogging (unless you have 500k+ social media followers).
Creating your own products lets you decide on a product that fits your brand. It can add value to your blog.
But remember that you shouldn’t put out a product just to sell it, it needs to offer something of value, something people want.
Otherwise, people might be disappointed and hence lower your reputation, decreasing your sales.
This is a give and take situation.
Some of the most popular types of products blogger sell are; E-Courses, E-books, video tutorials, blog review and guidance, and private consulting sessions.
You can choose any one of these that fit your blog image.
PROTIP: Choose a small cheap product as your first. This way you can test the market out. Also, lower priced items will sell more easily, which is what you want when you’re starting out.
Sometimes, brands can reach out to you and ask you to review a product or service, or to mention their product in a blog post.
Or, if there is a product which you really like, you can reach out to them yourself. Sponsorship pitches can even come from you. Learn how to send a great pitch for sponsorships here.
With sponsorships, you can even choose to rent out ad space on your blog or to include social media posts about the product/service.
If you want to get started with sponsorships, you will need to have a media kit. This is basically a summary of your blog, your blog stats and social media following. The companies need it to determine if they want to work with you and how much to pay.
There are many different views on this type of income. Some embrace it with arms wide open, others don’t even consider it. It is entirely your decision.
PROTIP: When doing sponsored posts, many people find it difficult to find the right price. To get an estimate of what you can/should charge, you should check this site!
Sponsorships and ads can even be used in social media. If you have a large social media following (3k+), then you can also advertise products for a profit.
A good example of this is Instagram posts. If you use Instagram, chances are, you’ve come across posts with the #Ad or the #Sponsor tags.
People use this method and they make good money with it.
So if you like social media, and you have a large following, you can also add this to your monetizing strategy.
Partnerships are long-term relationships with sponsors.
This means that you endorse the company and that you promote their products regularly for a longer period of time.
You might have their banner on your blog and regularly write posts about the company’s products.
They might even feature you from their end. For example; in website images and ads.
The above are the most used ways to monetize your blog. Here you can learn how to get started and how you can earn money in the future.
But that doesn’t mean these are the only methods.
A blog is a creative outlet in itself, so never limit yourself in your ways to monetize your blog!
